Gardaí are concerned about the numbers visiting the area.
Derryounce Lakes is being closed in the interest of public health and safety.
The committee says they regret to announce the immediate closure but are doing so on the advice of the Gardaí, who are concerned about the large numbers visiting the amenity in Portarlington.
These gatherings are in breach of social distancing requirements and many are also in breach of the 5 km travel restriction.
The committee is asking people to co-operate with us on this decision and to stay away from Derryounce Lakes for the immediate future.
