The move is expected to assist the Laois company's objective of moving into the water sector.
A midlands renewable energy business has struck a deal with an engineering consultancy company.
Portlaoise's Fingleton White has acquired WEW Engineering, which is based in Kilkenny.
The Portlaoise business, which employs nearly 200 staff, provides engineering services to the energy sector in Ireland and the UK, and was established in 1981.
It focuses particularly on areas such as aviation fuel pipeline and district heating.
WEW Engineering specialises in energy-efficient water and wastewater treatment systems.
Managing Director of Fingleton White, Mick Lennon, says "the acquisition will help accelerate of one of their key objectives, which is diversification into the water sector."
Chief Executive Officer of WEW, Henk van der Puil says:
"This sale supports WEW’s long-term objectives, and it provides even more security for our staff."
