Midlands Environmentalist Doubts Councils EPA Response

It comes as sites were named in an EPA report for illegal peat extraction.

A Westmeath environmental consultant thinks a new national body for illegal peat extraction cases would be 'kicking the can down the road' for county councils. 

Local authorities in Offaly and Westmeath say they want one set up with the resources needed to help with seeking expert advice and legal costs. 

It's after sites under their control were named in an EPA report on the issue, with the body saying its willing to take enforcement steps against the councils if required.
