A Midlands framer is urging the agricultural Minister and the European Commission to investigate a deal between Dawn Meats and the Alliance group.
ICSA Sheep chair Willie Shaw wants protective measures implemented over Dawn Meats’ planned acquisition of a controlling stake in New Zealand’s largest sheepmeat exporter, Alliance Group.
The Offaly farmer believes the deal, which is believed to be worth around €120 million euro, could flood EU and UK markets with New Zealand lamb, undercutting Irish farmers.
Dawn Meats aims to merge Northern Hemisphere supply with New Zealand exports for year-round availability.
