The scammer is asking people to download an app.
Gardaí in the Midlands are warning about scam calls.
It comes after a number of people in Birr received calls on their landline with the caller telling them that a sum of money has been requested from their bank accounts.
The scammer then asked them to download an app to stop the payment going through.
The app, when used legitimately used, enables you to send files back and forth and share information between devices but could be used in a manner to gain information or transfer files from your tablet computer or device when downloaded.
Gardaí are advising to ignore these calls and to remember that no legitimate companies would act in such a manner.
