Calls For Independent Body For Planning Appeals After Meat Plant Halt

The project was first approved in 2019.

Power to adjudicate on planning appeal cases should be removed completely from the courts and handed to an independent body.

That's the message from Midlands MEP Barry Cowen after plans for an expansion of the Banagher Chilling abattoir have been shelved after years in planning limbo.

MEP Cowen backed the project when first approved in 2019 during his time as an Laois-Offaly TD, which was set to create over 100 jobs for the Midlands.
