Laois gets €4.2 million in road funding out of a total budget of €361 million
A midlands TD says the amount of road funding allocated to County Laois is inadequate.
Laois/Offaly TD Brian Stanley says the county has so many important roads and is travelled through by so many every day.
He adds "The N80 Carlow to Killeigh, N77 Portlaoise to Cullahill and the N78 Athy to Castlecomer along the Motorway, all have to be maintained".
Laois was given just over 1% of the total allocation to the 31 councils in the State.
It received just €4.2 million out of a total budget of €361 million.
Deputy Stanley also believes the badly needed Relief Road for Mountmellick is another reason for the funding.
He says Mountmellick "is chocked up with traffic and in particular lorries as it is the route for most traffic from the West of Ireland to Rosslare Euro Port in Wexford.
HGVs are encountering difficulties navigating the junctions in town and local residents have real concerns about road safety.’’
