An Ireland South MEP is citing the recent figures.
People are laughing in the face of the court system in Ireland.
That's according to Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ni Murchu after her office discovered there is €2.8m in unpaid fines to midlands District Courts over the last five years.
The former barrister's Freedom of Information requests show €1.1m in fines is owed to Portlaoise District Court since 2020.
The figure is €854,000 in Tullamore, and €842,000 in Mullingar.
Nationally, there is just under €45m in unpaid fines.
