The building sector is broadly welcoming the government's new spending plan.
The building sector says the National Development Plan has the potential to “transform” Irish society.
The plan, launched earlier today, pledges to spend billions in the coming decade building a slew of massive infrastructure projects.
Tom Parlon from the Construction Industry Federation says there have been issues in the past with projects such as Metrolink being repeatedly delayed.
But the Coolderry man says the plan presents a major opportunity for builders.
Meanwhile, the Public Expenditure Minister has insisted safeguards are in place to ensure value for money on the new National Development Plan.
Michael McGrath says external experts will be brought in at tender stage in a bid to avoid a repeat of the National Children's Hospital overruns.
