The National Ploughing Association is cancelling the event's Trade Exhibition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisers are hoping to run the championships behind closed doors.
The NPA Managing Director Anna May McHugh says “the Executive reached this very difficult decision to cancel the Trade Exhibition as public health and safety is our foremost priority given the current global pandemic. With visitor attendance last year of 297,000 and up to 1,700 exhibitors, we had too many concerns about how we could implement social distancing and the potential risk of bringing together people from all over the country.
As the NPA are very aware of the impact this cancellation will have on exhibitors we are looking at ways in which we can promote exhibitors through our social media channels through a virtual type exhibition.
The event was due to take place in Ballintrane, Fenagh, Co Carlow from September 15th to 17th.
NPA Assistant Managing Director Anna Marie McHugh outlines how a behind closed doors competition might work:
Rather than an expected baby boom following Covid-19, scientists fear the virus has actually put people off having children. https://t.co/Y2lnhcazKh
