Laois County Council needs to formalise a position which would monitor the state of elderly people's homes, according to a Councillor.
A number of years ago, the Liason and Maintenance Officer for Elderly and Disabled tenants retired, and that role has remained unfilled since.
They would assist with simple tasks such as changing a light-bulb, repairing the lock on a door or checking the heating system.
