Approval has been granted for the new 632m airstrip.
A new runaway will be landing in Offaly soon.
The local authority has granted planning permission for a new light aircraft, 632 metre long, landing strip, in Cloneyhurke, Portarlington.
Funfly Aerosports Flying Club, which currently operates out of Clonbollouge, also plans to develop a 722 square metre storage hangar and a 113 square metre clubhouse.
The airstrip will be built on land owned by Edenderry Fianna Fáil Councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick.
Use will only be permitted between 9am and 8pm each day, as one of the conditions of approval being granted.
Two objections were made against the development.
One was made by a couple who live across the road from the proposed site of the landing strip.
They argue the development is "of no benefit" to the local community and will only cause noise disturbances.
They're also concerned the aircrafts could crash and endanger their lives and their home.
The other submission raises concerns of the flight path from the runway, which flies directly over the local school.
