Nine Midlands Schools Receive Funding Boost For Walking And Cycling Facilities

Works are set to start in the coming weeks as part of the new Safe Routes to School programme.

Nine schools in the midlands will benefit from funding for improved walking and cycling facilities.

€15 million is being allocated to 170 schools around the country, as part of the government's new Safe Routes to School programme announced earlier this year.

Works are set to start in the coming weeks and include projects like new cycle lanes, upgraded footpaths and parking facilities.

Junior Transport Minister, Hildegarde Naughton says more urban schools are included in the initial phase of the programme:

 

The schools in the midlands receiving funding are:

Maryborough NS, Summerhill, The Downs, Portlaoise.
Scoil Mhuire, Abbeyleix.
Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Davitt Road, Mountmellick.
 
Banagher College, Banagher.
St. Rynagh's National School Banagher.
St. Joseph's NS, Ardan View, Tullamore.
St. Mary's Secondary school, Edenderry.
 
St Joseph's secondary school, Rochfortbridge, Co. Westmeath.
Scoil Chroí Naofa, Rochfortbridge, Co. Westmeath.
