Ballycumber's Seamus Boland had a private audience with Pope Leo due to his work as EESC President.

An Offaly Farmer and social activist says it was an 'extraordinary honour' to be granted a private audience with the Pope.

Ballycumber's Seamus Boland was given the invitation to the Vatican following on from his work to eradicate poverty as president of the European Economic and Social Committee.

The EU body is a representative group for unions, employers, workers, and social organisations when it comes to policy-shaping.

He says he couldn't resist telling the Pope about his home:
