An Offaly TD is calling for the government's Educational Disadvantage Committee to be re-instated.
It was intially set-up in 2003, and introduced the Deis school programme - before being was abolished in 2006.
A report by the Higher Education Authority shows just 10% of students at third level are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
