An Offaly TD wants support for businesses to introduce IT systems that make reporting retail crime quicker and easier.

Fine Gael Deputy John Clendennen believes the rollout of a retail crime grant would provide allow retailers to report incidents directly to Gardaí.

His proposal would see companies share information on theft and anti-social behaviour to alert Gardaí to emerging patterns.

He says supporting retailers through technology will tackle retail crime more effectively:
