An Offaly vet is warning of the long term health impacts for obese pets.
New research by Petamania in Tullamore has found three in five pet dogs are classified as obese, along with 40 per cent of domestic cats.
Ollie Keane from Cloghan Vet Clinic says there's a definite increase in animals presenting with obesity-related problems, like heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis - along with a shortened life expectancy.
He advises people to not give in to puppy dog eyes and avoid over-feeding pets with snacks and treats from the dinner table:
