The premises has been previously used to house Ukranian refugees.
Over 80 beds are being made available to asylum seekers at a site in Offaly previously used for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection.
In April, it was announced that 41 Ukrainians were to leave Elm Grove House in Birr, including eight children and eight people living with disabilities.
The Department of Integration are now saying 88 beds on the site will now be used to accommodate International Protection Applicants in the former nursing home.
The State says support services in the area have been informed of the move and are preparing additional supports needed to assist people settle in to the community.
A two-year contract has been signed with the provider.
