A midlands guidance counsellor says the costs need to be capped.
Costs need to be capped for transition year, or else children will continue to be excluded.
That's according to career guidance counsellor and Mullingar's Betty McLaughlin, who says the Department of Education must tackle the issue in any revision of TY.
According to S-V-P, parents in public schools are being charged anything from €100 to €900 to register their child.
Last March, Minister for Education Norma Foley announced that transition year should be available to 'every student who wishes to participate in the programme'.
Ms. McLaughlin says guidelines on cost need to be put in place by the Department.
