The Meath West TD is evaluating an alternative from his party.
Aontu leader Peadar Toibín is ruling himself out of Ireland's presidental election taking place later this year.
The party is seeking to run a candidate and is currently having internal talks about who to put forward.
Only three of their members, including Deputy Toibín are sitting TD's.
It means 17 other TD's or four local authorities would have to back their choice to get a slot on the ballot paper.
