The huge event returns to Laois in two weeks' time.
The President will be among those in attendance at this year's National Ploughing Championships.
The massive agri-event returns to Ratheniska in Laois in two weeks' time, from September 17th to the 19th.
Despite heavy rain and mucky conditions at last year's Ploughing, over 200,000 people attended the event.
Assistant Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association, Anna Marie McHugh, says they're excited to welcome President, Michael D. Higgins, to Laois:
The 2024 National Ploughing Championships were officially launched this afternoon, with media and special guests given a sneak peek of what to expect at the event.
Ms. McHugh said “The Championships not only provides a national stage for showcasing all things agricultural, but also brings together people from all sectors of Irish society both rural and urban, to enjoy three days immersed in country living.”
There will be millions of euro worth of agricultural and plant machinery on display featuring an extensive range of agricultural technology and equipment.
The leading manufacturers and agents will be present with specialist sales advisors and technical experts available for consultations.
The NPA also says there has already been huge interest to enter the prestigious ‘Machine of the Year’ competition.
World Ploughing Champions Jer Coakley, West Cork and Eamonn Tracey, Carlow were greeted with applause as they arrived at the site, adorned with medals and trophies.
They'll be hoping to defend their titles at this years' event, and Mr Tracey says he's not expecting the competition to be easy:
