He is accused of trying to coerce a woman into his car by impersonating a Garda.
The prosecutor in the trial of a man accused of trying to coerce a woman into his car by impersonating a Garda has described his version of events as “fantastical.”
Declan McGowan, of Branswood, Athy, Co Kildare, denies pretending to be a Garda and claims he was trying to help her.
Mr. McGowan claims he was driving along Kimmage Road Lower in Dublin at around 2am on September 18th last year when he saw a woman running in a panic.
When he pulled over, he claimed she told him she was in danger, and while talking to her, he claims her husband arrived in a taxi and slapped her across the face.
He said he then stepped in and just put his two hands on the husband’s shoulders.
His barrister told the jurors today that the only thing his client did wrong that night was to place himself between a husband and wife.
The prosecution described this version of events as “fantastical.”
Their case is that Mr McGowan tried to get her into his car by impersonating a garda; that he hugged her and kissed her hand against her will and that he choked her husband when he came to see if she was ok.
Mr McGowan denies all charges.
