A status yellow wind warning will also come into effect this afternoon.
A seventh county has been added to the list of those to fall under a Status Red wind warning, as Storm Darragh makes landfall.
It will come into effect in Wicklow at 1am tomorrow morning, several hours after the alert kicks in in Mayo, Clare, Galway, Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.
The warning will be effective for a number of hours as Storm Darragh bears down on the country.
The entire country is subject to an Orange wind warning from 10pm, while Munster and Connacht will be subject to the warning from 8pm.
