Possible Reprieve For Turf Cutters As Bord Na Móna Considers New Proposal

It's after the company told turf cutters they would not be granted licences for 2021.

There could be a reprieve for small scale turf cutters across the midlands in the coming weeks. 

Bord na Móna is taking legal advice on the establishment of a community co-operative for five years, allowing those using turf for home heating a chance to source alternative fuels.

In 2019, the High Court ruled that all bogs over 30 hectares would require planning permission for peat harvesting. 

Laois-Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Barry Cowen is hopeful this could be a workable solution:

 

TURFCUTTING: It comes after hundreds of people were issued a letter from Bord na Móna.
