Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 2 o'clock this morning.
Residents were evacuated from their homes in Laois overnight, after a suspect device was found.
Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 2 o'clock this morning following reporst a device was left outside a house at O'Moore Place in Portlaoise.
A security cordon was put in place and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal was notified and attended the scene.
An examination was carried out on site and the device has since been deemed a hoax.
Garda enquiries are ongoing.
