Restaurants Demanding State Payments To Save From Industry From Closure

Owners are struggling with rising insurance costs.

The hospitality sector is demanding the same payments childcare operators are receiving, to cope with rising insurance costs.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe is ruling out providing government funding to other businesses, similar to the average €1,500 payment being given to creches.

First it was childcare owners, now restaurant owners say they face an uncertain 2020 due to rising insurance premiums.

Restaurants and cafes say they could close, unless action is taken, with four major insurers not offering them renewals for 2020.

The government this week announced childcare providers will receive an average €1,500 payment to deal with extra insurance and admin costs.

Fianna Fáil's Business spokesperson, Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy, claims the government has taken its eye off the ball:

Concerns are mounting the voluntary sports and community sector could be next to face potential closure.
