Roscommon-Galway TD Believes EU Overreaching On Biodiversity Law

A new EU biodiversity law on the re-wetting of the boglands is being forced on people in the midlands.

So says independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice is concerned the policy will allow Irish citizens to draw down funds to bring cases against those not following the directive.

The proposal, if it were to pass through the legislative processes, would require Ireland to re-wet 300 thousand hectares of drained peat soils, much of which is currently being used for farming.

The Roscommon-Galway rep says the law represents something beyond the pale of democracy:
