Ms. Ryan was first elected to the Dáil in 2020, and topped the poll in that General Election, landing over 10,000 first preference votes.
Sinn Féin Chief Whip Pádraig MacLochlainn says she was encouraged to seek the party's nomination at next week's convention, which is expected to be contested.
He also says Ms. Ryan was a valued member of the team, and he's disappointed in her decision.
Patricia Ryan made headlines when she won her seat in 2020 while on holidays.
