Westmeath councillors met the Department of Integration yesterday.
The Department of Integration's lack of communication regarding potential plans to build an accommodation centre in Westmeath is 'stoking fear.'
That's the claim from an Independent Ireland Local Election Candidate, after the State's Community Engagement Team met with members of the local authority yesterday.
Paul Hogan says amidst rumours of Athlone hosting one of six designated centres for asylum seeker accommodation, there must be consultation with locals.
The CET said if any such facility was to be built, it would need planning permission.
