It's claimed the traffic is so loud that local residents can't even have a conversation outside.
An assessment into noise pollution along the Athlone bypass has yet to be carried out - a year on since the issue was first raised.
Westmeath County Council was due to appoint consultants to examine the issue, affecting residents living close to the busy N6 route, in 2021, with a report to be finalised by the end of the year.
However, it’s been confirmed at the latest meeting of the Athlone-Moate Municipal District that the council is continuing to engage with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to finalise the brief by the end of June.
Westmeath County Council says the outcome of the study will determine what, if any, mitigation measures may be required.
Installing sound-proofing barriers and reducing the speed limit have previously been suggested to help improve the quality of life of local residents.
