Strike Action: Here's All You Need To Know About Disruption At Midlands Hospitals

The HSE's warning of major disruption over the next two days.

The HSE's warning people to expect major disruption in hospitals over the next two days, due to a strike.

Up to 30,000 procedures won't go ahead today and tomorrow, and there'll be long delays in emergency departments. 

2,100 medical scientists won't carry out routine lab services between 8am and 8pm on both days in a dispute over pay and career development.

Tony Canavan, the chief executive of the Saolta hospital group, which includes Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, says it'll have a very significant impact throughout the country:

Midlands Hospital Portlaoise

The hospital will contact you if your appointment is cancelled.

Some theatre lists, day services and outpatients appointments will be affected.

 

Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore

The hospital will contact you if your appointment is cancelled.

The following are cancelled:

  • warfarin clinics
  • endoscopy
  • phlebotomy services

Everything else is going ahead as scheduled. If your appointment has been cancelled, the hospital will contact you to reschedule it.

 

Regional Hospital Mullingar

The hospital will contact you if your appointment is cancelled.

The following are cancelled:

  • endoscopy
  • general surgery procedures
  • gynaecology procedures
  • minor surgery
  • phlebotomy service
  • warfarin clinic
  • glucose tolerance tests
  • Dr Bergin pre-assessment clinic

Everything else is going ahead as scheduled. If your appointment has been cancelled, the hospital will contact you to reschedule it.
