Social media companies should be held accountable before the Oireachtas Media Committee on disinformation policies after a midlands shooting incident over the weekend.
That's the view of Fine Gael TD for Longford-Westmeath Micheal Carrigy following social media posts about the incident in Carlow on Sunday.
Users falsely claimed the incident was a mass shooting carried out by a foreign national, with Gardai later confirming the shooter was a white Irish male.
