Waterways Ireland are due to meet with members of the Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Proposed changes to the canal byelaws will go before TDs and Senators today.
Athlone's Waterways Ireland has suggested a number of possible revisions, which include an annual registration process, in-water inspections and insurance for boats.
This will impact the Grand & Royal Canal, the Barrow Navigation and the River Shannon.
The proposals were previously rejected by Offaly County Council, with those living on the water saying they're being pushed out by the revisions.
Waterways Ireland, as well as the Irish Residential Boat Owners' Association, will meet members of the Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage in Leinster House at 3pm this afternoon.
