Three Midlands Towns Being Considered For Sludge Hub Water Centres

A public consultation is underway at the moment.

Three waste treatment centres in the Midlands could be designated as sludge hub centres under new plans by Irish Water. 

Portlaoise, Mullingar and Tullamore are under consideration by the utility for the role in managing waste in the region for the next 25 years. 

A public consultation is curently underway for the project, which has been in planning for five years. 

Its estimated that by 2040 - Ireland's volume of sludge produced will be over 50,000 tonnes, an 80% increase.
