Two major upgrades to greenway infrastructure in a Westmeath town are underway.
Drilling for a new cycle and foot bridge in Athlone, which will extend onto the Dublin-Galway greenway project is expected to take a couple of weeks to complete.
Westmeath County Council hope to tender the construction of the bridge by the end of the year, with a view to it being open by 2022.
A similar project from the white gates in Athlone to the marina is expected to be completed in 2020.
