The motion for this movement was brought up in a council meeting.
The Palestinian flag is set to be raised over Westmeath County Council.
It follows a motion by Labour Councillor Johnnie Penrose, joining many other counties across Ireland, such as Dublin, Cork and Sligo.
It comes as Israel has made the decision to close it's embassy in Ireland, citing 'anti-Israeli policies' from the Irish government.
Certain procedures will be followed in the new year before Palestine's flag can be flown alongside the Irish flag at the council building.
