A young Westmeath man has won a Garda Special Recognition Bravery Award for saving a seven month baby and her pram from the canal.
Tyrone Donoghue from Mullingar spotted the pram rolling in - and despite not being able to swim - got the baby to safety.
Other recipients in the Midlands include Freya Maher from Laois/Offaly - who administered CPR to her horse riding instructor after a fall until emergency services arrived.
Kinnitty's Michael Dennehy also won a Special Achievement Award for his continued work in local sports coaching and his silver All Ireland medal in wheelchair hurling with Leinster.
