Emper National School needs 14 new pupils.

A Westmeath school is appealing for new enrolments in the face of losing one of its two teachers.

Emper National School in Ballynacarrigy, requires a minimum of 14 pupils to retain its two teachers for the next academic year.

The local community is rallying to encourage families with school age children to consider enrolling.

Principal Fiona Brennan believes that maintaining local schools is vital to preserving rural communities and educational access.
