A Fianna Fáil Councillor wants to see Athlone paired with a US City.
A future with new opportunities.
That's the idea behind a midlands town twinning with a US city.
The proposal is to pair Athlone and Providence, in Rhode Island.
Westmeath councillor Aengus O' Rourke is also suggesting putting a district wide twinning protocol in place in advance.
The Fianna Fáil councillor says the pairing with Providence could help Athlone in its pursuit of city status:
