Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage - Midlands Wetlands Tour Kicks Off In Laois

Tóchar Midlands Wetland Restoration is holding the first session in Portlaoise this evening.

A series of public information evenings are taking place across the Midlands showcasing the importance of wetlands.

A Tóchar Midlands Wetland Restoration survey says just over 7 in 10 people favour protecting Ireland's natural water logged areas.

The €12 million, conservation project is recognising the vital role the areas play in biodiversity, carbon storage and cultural heritage.

The events, taking place across Laois, Offaly and Westmeath from today are open to landowners, farmers, community groups, local organisations and anyone with an interest in wetlands.

The first information sessions begin in Portlaoise at the Killeshin Hotel this evening.
