It's thought the operation could be related to the death of Robbie Lawlor in Belfast.
The two women arrested during a money laundering operation in Laois yesterday have been released without charge.
The women, aged in their 20s and 30s, were stopped by gardaí on the M7 in Portlaoise yesterday afternoon, and 50 thousand euro in cash was seized.
They had been detained in Portlaoise Garda Station overnight.
A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and investigations are ongoing.
