When complete it'll encompass 2.5km linking Derryounce Lakes and the Barrow Blue Way.
Work is due to begin on phase two of the €200,000 Portarlington River Walk.
The project - which is being carried out by the town's Community Development Association - will run along the River Barrow from the People's Park in the town to Lea Castle.
When complete, the 2.5km walkway will link the Derryounce Lakes and Trails to the Barrow Blue Way and provide information about the local heritage, ecosystems and biodiversity.
