A final completion day for the project has been announced.
Works have started on a new respiratory unit for Portlaoise Regional Hospital.
The initial works on the €5.5 million development, next to the hospital's Emergency Department, are due to be completed by the end of May.
Autumn 2023 has been set as the final completion date for the project, according to local Fine Gael councillor Thomasina Connell.
She says investments like this give confidence to the community that the hospital is here to stay:
Councillor Connell had sought an update on the project at the latest meeting of the Dublin Mid-Leinster Health Forum.
