The number of people who attended the unit increase by nearly a quarter.
A 14-year-old was among those who attended a midlands sexual assault treatment unit last year.
The SATU's annual report shows 148 people were treated at the unit in Mullingar in 2022, an increase of nearly a quarter on the year prior.
Eoghan Murphy has the following report:
The majority of those were in the 18-25 age range - the youngest patient was 14, while the eldest was 55.
Nearly 40% of those who attended the SATU, reported the incident more than 24 hours after it occurred.
One patient who was treated by staff said, "in a moment when you feel very vulnerable they were very gentle caring
and compassionate."
