Queries relating to anxiety, ADHD and eating disorders are among the most common reasons for referrals to CAMHS services.
The latest report from the Mental Health Commission shows the CHO8 area, which includes Laois, Offaly and Westmeath is understaffed.
It notes the absence of a liaison team and day hospital within the Health area, when there should be two of each.
The report also found some young people who are suicidal have been waiting up to 50 days to be seen by mental health professionals.
