The Public Office Commission says it's very concerned.
Five political parties failed to provide a statement of accounts to the Standards in Public Office Commission for last year.
They are Aontú, led by Meath-West TD Peadar Toibin, Identity Ireland, the National Party, Renua and the Workers Party.
The commission says it's very concerned Renua and Aontú failed to meet their obligations, but no action will be taken.
It's because they are no longer 'qualified parties' after failing to meet the threshold of votes in February's general election.
Update:
Aontú has this evening moved to confirm it has now submitted the appropriate statements, citing covid disruptions and party leader Peadar Tóibín's cancer diagnosis for the delay.
"We can confirm that our Statement of Accounts for the year 2019 have been submitted to SIPO. This was delayed due to Covid. We apologised to SIPO for this short delay”.
“Aontú was formed as a party in January 2019 and contested the Local Elections in May of that year. Contrary to many of today’s reports Aontú is not in receipt of public money. Despite this we have managed to build a grass roots movement across the 32 counties. This have been fuelled by voluntarism and ordinary citizens giving up of their time. All the other establishment parties in the Dáil receive millions of euro from the taxpayer each year. We do not receive any such money".
"Aontú submitted auditing files and our donation figures within the deadline, despite the fact that, as a party we are not in receipt of taxpayer money and were not required to submit information at this level. In truth despite the delay, as it stands at this moment in time, we have gone beyond our statutory requirements in the provision of information”.
“Over the summer our party leader Peadar Tóibín TD received a shock diagnosis of cancer. This in tandem with the difficulties caused by Covid, our submission was delayed by a short amount of time".
