Bishop Liam MacDaid - the Bishop Emeritus of Clogher - has died at the age of 78.
The Donegal-native died suddenly yesterday while on holiday in France.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
The Diocese of Clogher encompasses all of Monaghan, most of Fermanagh, and portions of Tyrone, Donegal, Louth and Cavan.
Bishop Denis Nulty, from the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin says it with with great sadness he learned of the death of Bishop Liam MacDaid.
He says Bishop McDaid's kindness and warmth will be greatly missed.
