Over 2,500 midlands businesses have debt warehoused.
Laois Chamber is calling for the deadline for warehouse debt repayment to be extended.
The scheme was introduced for businesses after the pandemic, allowing them to bank their various debts away for a later date, which is coming up on May 1st.
Over €50 million is warehoused among over 2,500 businesses in the region.
Westmeath leads the way with €24 million, followed by €12 million in Laois and €11 million in Offaly, according to figures released to Laois Offaly TD Carol Nolan.
CEO of Laois Chamber Alliance, Jackie Carroll, says even devising a repayment plan could prove difficult if the business has to hire an accountant:
