Clarity Needed On Ability Of Local Authority To Reclaim Rates Shortfall

Laois County Council is facing an income loss of €7.6m, a figure that could rise.

Concerns are being raised about recouping the shortfall of commercial rates in Laois. 

Independent rep James Kelly is calling for more clarity on how a €255m fund to local authorities from the government will be divided. 

The Laois executive is predicting an income loss of around €7.6m at the moment, which accounts for two thirds of the projected rate collection for 2020.
