It happened on the M6 just after the Rochfortbridge exit.
Emergency services are at the scene of a crash in Westmeath this morning.
The incident, which took place at around 7am on the M6 near Rochfortbridge, involves a car, a jeep with a trailer and a truck.
While the Eastbound lane is closed after junction three, loose cows are causing further issues with a number making it onto the Westbound lane.
Gardaí are asking anyone travelling from the Athlone/Galway direction to leave the M6 at junction 4 Tyrrellspass.
Diversions are currently being put in place.
